Pick 5 VA
Pick 5 is a five-digit VA game with a top prize of $50,000. It was launched in Virginia following the success of Pick 3 and Pick 4 and offers similar flexibility in how to play, but bigger payouts.
Draws take place twice daily, at 1:59 PM and 11 PM, with ticket sales cutting off just before at 1:53 PM and 10:45 PM. See the full Virginia Lottery Live Draw Schedule and follow the live draws for Pick 5 to find out the winning numbers as soon as they are available.
How to Play Pick 5
It’s simple to play Pick 5 in Virginia. All you need to do is follow these steps:
- Decide on your play amount - $0.50 or $1
- Pick your play type – Exact Order, Any Order or 50/50
- Choose your draw – Day, Night or both
- Select five numbers from 0 to 9. Pick your own or get an Easy Pick
- Decide whether to add the Fireball for more chances to win
You can play the same numbers in just the next draw or enter multiple consecutive draws, up to a maximum of 91. If you want to play on a specific day in the future, you can let the clerk know and play in advance rather than just entering every draw in a row.
Play Types
Here’s a bit more information about the three play types you can choose from in VA Pick 5:
- Exact order: Also known as a Straight. You have to match the winning five digits in drawn order
- Any order: As long as the five numbers you pick are drawn, you win. The order is irrelevant
- 50/50: Split your play between Exact Order and Any Order. Half the cost goes on each play

Virginia Fireball
Following the Pick 5 draw, a Fireball is also selected at random. This is another digit from 0 to 9, which may be the same as any of the numbers that have already been drawn but could be different. If you add the Fireball option to your play, you can replace any of the five drawn numbers with the winning Fireball. This could give you a win if you’ve only matched four of the first five numbers, or even reward you with an extra payout. The odds and prizes for Fireball are shown below.
